Parent Meeting post first Home Meet

    Hello everyone,

Thank you everyone for their hard work with our first home meet hosting the Mountain Park Sharks. I had a lot of people from MPS come up to me and compliment our facility, our concession stand and the meet as a whole. So we were a success.

Many were trying a volunteer role for the first time. Timers were learning how to stop one stop watch, start the other and write down the times neatly in the correct spot quickly. The other part we figured out is you also have to make sure all of the timer sheets are given to the runners. No sheets should be left in the books even if there was no swimmer in your lane. Missing pages means the meet can not be closed and a longer evening for the computer people. They also found out the Stroke and Turn judges will take the timer books every so often to write in DQs.

Stroke and Turn judges found out it is hard to hear on the walkie talkies when it is loud.

Runners found out that they have to collect timer sheets from each lane each time often and organize them in order to know if something is missing and to help the computer people.

Stagers found out when the kids run around in the staging area and get loud, more mistakes happen organizing them in the right event in the right order; Timers were discovering names of swimmers in lanes were not matching the sheet.

The Starter found out (me) if the microwave is used, the breaker gets flipped and the microphone stops working; and having a person help really makes life better.

Concessions: We did well with food donations; the only thing missing was Sprite but we had lot's of other drink options. We found out I don't know how to put the square app to take credit cards on anyone else's phone but mine....making communicating to the starter, who know longer has a phone more difficult. But we made about $500! Our personal touch with homemade items, dips and chili I think made it even better.

I would like to have a team meeting with all the parents to go over anything else parents noted or did not understand so we can prepare  for June 29th, our last home meet and last meet all together besides the Finals.

We also have learned other parents would like to help in other ways but don't know how to help. The leadership had a meeting and have worked on a list of other team roles we would benefit having to help the team run even smoother. For example, we need people to organize the end of the season party including ordering the swimmer awards. And a check in person(s) who can guide the swimmers to check in each practice and at the beginning of the meets so it is done consistently (Krystal and I both work so we can't be there every practice). And a volunteer coordinator who can check in the volunteers and keep checking on them and the other teams volunteers to make sure everyone is doing what needs to be done correctly. Lindsay, our Sponsorship/Fundraiser spokesperson will be sending out a form with all of the possible roles you can help with if you'd like to help more. Having more people to help in these roles will make things more fun all around for all.

The parent meeting will be this Tuesday at 7:00 pm. Google meets link:

    See you then.
